JS Watch Co. Islandus Chronograph
The young Iceland-based brand has finally started selling its recently presented JS Watch Co. Islandus Chronograph Chopard Happy Sport Edition 2 Ladies Watch 27-8477.WH.
The watch is named after an Icelandic philosopher and a vagabond Solon Islandus, a person, who proclaimed himself Iceland’s greatest man.
He was imprisoned at least three times by Danish colonial authorities for vagrancy but never gave up his way of life.
While Mr. Solon Islandus was a very poor guy and had literally nothing besides his ambitions, the new timekeeper, which bears his name, is targeted at those enjoying much higher standards of living.
JS Watch Co. is a very young brand, by any standards.
The company was established only five years ago and they still have to outsource the better part of the production cycle to third-parties located in Germany (cases) and Switzerland (movements.)
However, the final assembly is conducted in Reykjavik and, judging by users’ feedback on different forums, they almost never fail to deliver: the build quality is always really good and support is very, well, personal. This particular watch, for example, features a 44 mm case made of surgical grade German stainless steel 316L and is powered by the Swiss ETA Valjoux 7750 Execution Top chronograph movement with custom decoration.
As far as I understand, for around â’70 you can even order your own name engraved on the movement’s winding rotor.
The watch is offered in four colors of the dial (Galvanic Black, Silver, Charcoal Gray and White Brilliant,) and is available with rhodium plated, white or flame blued hands.
It also has the day of week display either in Icelandic or in English. While the latter is more common and easier to understand, the former adds a certain national flavor to the timepiece, making it even more unique.
If its polished 44 mm x 14.5 mm stainless steel case doesn’t look too big for you, this watch may be a very good acquisition compared to more â€mainstream†brands from Switzerland that operate within the same price range.

With the new Breitling Transocean Chronograph 01 Limited Edition automatic watch the Swiss watchmaker somewhat loses its present individuality, but makes a good claim for the niche of elegant dressy chronographs powered by manufacture-made movements.
What do we have here?
Did Breitling finally realize that its signature brutal design became obsolete and the time has come to offer customers something so old, that for the young generation of wealthy clientele it may actually look completely new?
If this is so, I am very glad for the brand: they really need to come back to their roots in order to reinvent themselves.
Of course, there is always a risk that some persons may blame the company in mimicking other brands that still produce classic watches. Doesn’t the new Transocean look too close to the existing Omega Speedmaster Moon chronographs?

Even the slender bezel with a beveled profile looks very close to the Speedmaster’s, safe for the lack of tachymeter scale, which is printed on the dial in case of Breitling.
Well, both models are very close in appearance, but in fact Breitling is resurrecting its own design language from the 1960s. In fact, the new Breitling Transocean looks very much alike the 1969 MY Breitling Top Time chronograph!
According to the Swiss company, the watch will be produced in two versions: regular issue and a limited edition series, which is the most interesting to us.
The Breitling Transocean Chronograph 01 Limited Edition will be presented in steel (2000 pieces) and red gold (200 pieces.) The watches will be delivered in mirror-polished bezel and case with â€No.X/2000â€-style individual number engraved at its side.

Standard issue models will be delivered with solid case backs (they will probably also be powered by a more mundane chronograph movement, like ETA Valjoux 7750.)
Judging by the pictures, there will be a choice of leather or crocodile leather strap, but a woven steel bracelet looks like the best choice for the version in stainless steel.
What can I say? I really, really like this model and hope that Breitling will issue more vintage-styled timepieces. I am kinda tired of those chunky sporty watches.

The name of the watch is somewhat confusing, right?
Why would a watch that comes with a standard three-hand layout, a power reserve indicator and a tourbillon escapement bear a â€Regulator†designation in its name, you might ask?
Well, the answer is quite simple.
The word â€regulator†here is used in its historic sense, meaning that the watch is very accurate thanks to a device that maintains a designated characteristic of a certain crucial component. In the new DW 8014 automatic movement it is called Automatic Sequential Winding (A.S.W.) system.

The pair of skeletonized hour and minute hands made in the shape of heavy two-edged swords finishes the magnificent picture.
