What Medieval Armor Should I Wear With This Knight’s sword? by Chris Hinde
You have probably asked yourself this question if you are planning on participating in this year’s Renaissance Faireeven if you are a connoisseur of medieval knight armor history. Don’t worry! Here are some general guidelines that may help you decide what style armor to wear with your favorite medieval weapons.
We all have a favorite weapon, whether it is a medieval sword, hand carved cross bow, or Swiss Halberd. Now you have to decide what to wear with it. When it comes to choosing medieval armor to go with your favorite weapon, you must make sure the style fits the historical time frame. If you’re not entirely sure, simply do some research to find out what people were wearing in that period. When matching period clothing with your weaponry, you can never go wrong. The plain cuirass is associated with jousting tournaments and King Arthur while the muscled cuirass is associated with Roman troopers’ armor.

For example, if you had a Spanish Halberd, you should probably go with a Spanish style engraved suit. The Spanish style is often very fancy with fine engraving and large plumes of colorful feathers on the helmet.
What about a helmet to match? This decision is much more difficult to make. The many styles of medieval helmets create several options that will work with your weapon of choice. From our previous example, you would want to find a Spanish style close helmet to match the halberd. The Spanish helmets are also finely detailed often with elaborate engravings.
